Designed On Purpose
A Favor-Driven perspective on identity, calling, and purpose.
By Michael Orr
Knowing God’s plan isn’t just about what He wants to do in the world—it’s also about what He had in mind when He created you.
Knowing God’s plan isn’t just about what He wants to do in the world—it’s also about what He had in mind when He created you.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11, NIV
Before you ever took your first breath, God knew you. He formed you with gifts, passions, and potential that no one else carries in quite the same way. Your life is not random. You are not a mistake. You were designed on purpose, for purpose.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”
Jeremiah 1:5, NIV
“ God creates with intention. He doesn’t make junk. He doesn’t make duplicates. ”
Those words were spoken to Jeremiah, but they reveal something true for all of us: God creates with intention. He doesn’t make junk. He doesn’t make duplicates. He makes people with unique fingerprints, unique assignments, and unique opportunities to carry His goodness into the world.
It’s easy to believe the lie that purpose only belongs to pastors or missionaries. But the truth is, only a small percentage of people are called into vocational ministry. The rest of us are called into every other area of life—family, business, education, creativity, government, media, community. God’s plan is for His light to shine in every sphere of influence, through ordinary people who say “yes” to Him.
That means your work matters. Your gifts matter. Your influence matters. God designed you to carry His presence into the places you live and lead. He designed you to reveal His goodness in ways that no one else can.
The question then becomes less about what others expect from you and more about what He had in mind when He made you. What was God thinking when He formed you in the womb? What did He wire you to carry into the world?
The incredible privilege is this: His plan for the earth and His plan for you are not separate. They are joined.
The incredible privilege is this: His plan for the earth and His plan for you are not separate. They are joined. By knowing Him, we step into the very reason He created us.
Ask Yourself: Have I taken time to ask God what He had in mind when He created me?
